Why Classical singing lessons?
Classical music is the fundament of music in the West. When you take classic singing lessons you have the advantage of getting a very bride base and be able to sing many different styles. You practice a powerful breathing technique with which we will put your body to work in order to remain without a microphone audible and intelligible at the back of the hall. You will also come into touch with many sorts of composers from various countries, who have proven themselves through the centuries and you learn different languages and poets.
Examples of classical vocals:
- Powerfull breathing technique by Cecila Bartoli
- Au bord de l’eau-Fauré by Véronique Gens
- Amarilli Mia Bella Love song by Caccini by Cecilia Bartoli
- Widmung – Schumann
- Vivaldi-Salve Regina-Andreas Scholl
Why Jazz?
Jazz music originated after black people from African countries were kidnapped to America to work as a slave on the plantations. They were sold and were mainly found in New Orleans, and there developed a mixture of negrospirituals and African folk rhythms from which various jazz movements arose. The syncopated rhythms combined with improvisation is the basis of jazz. Here we limit ourselves to vocal jazz. Listen to Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald. In vocal jazz you will be dealing with ‘skat’; These are improvisations with meaningless words. A-Wapdoebiedoebie-Shoebiedoewie-bap-wap.
Interview with ‘our’ Soester Jazzpianist/arrangeur/dirigent Henk Meutgeert about his love for jazz.
Examples of jazz:
- Nocturme in F minor – Peter Beets trio
- Alone again – Martin Haak
- East of the Sun and west of the moon – Nicki Parrott plays on the contrabass and sings
- One Note Samba with Ella Fitzgerald
